Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen football match scheduling at Ashton Gate Stadium on the 26th February the WEAF Annual Conference and Pre-Conference dinner has had to be rescheduled. The Pre-Conference dinner will now take place on Wednesday 27th February, with the Annual Conference now taking place on Thursday 28th February 2019.

Summary

Join us for the South West Aerospace networking event of the year, the WEAF Pre Conference Dinner, 27th February 2019 and the Annual Conference, 28th February 2019 at Ashton Gate Conference Centre, Bristol.

The Theme of this year’s conference is “UK Industrial Strategy” - Transformation of the South West Aerospace, Defence & Space Cluster.

Speakers from Airbus, GKN, Rolls-Royce, ADS & many more will provide their insights into activities in the aerospace sector; whether they relate to commercial or defence businesses, current international developments or future technologies.

Network with other delegates whilst viewing an extensive display of company exhibition stands, ranging from industry primes to SME’s across the region.

Katie Roscoe - Senior Manager - Government Relations, Rolls-Royce Plc

Women in Aerospace Charter

Katie has worked for Rolls-Royce in the Government Relations function since 2011, based in the corporate headquarters in London. She manages Rolls-Royce’s engagement with officials and Parliamentarians in Whitehall and Westminster and leads on aerospace, industrial strategy, energy and environment and skills policy areas. She is the Government Relations lead for Rolls-Royce’s relationship with several Government departments including the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Transport. She represents Rolls-Royce on a number of industry groups, the Aerospace Growth Partnership and Sustainable Aviation. She sits on the Steering Board of the Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter.

Prior to working at Rolls-Royce, Katie headed up a Parliamentary monitoring team of consultants, worked in the public sector at the Skills Funding Agency and for a multi-national corporation in corporate affairs. She has a Bachelors degree from the University of Warwick and a Masters degree in Legal and Political Theory from UCL.

Russ Dunn - Chief Technology Officer + Head of Strategy

GKN Innovation Centre

Russ oined GKN in 2013 as VP Chief Engineering and assumed the role of Senior Vice President Engineering & Technology in December 2014. Prior to joining GKN, he spent 17 years at Airbus in a variety of technical leadership roles most recently VP Head of A350 XWB Wing Engineering responsible for wing structures, movables and systems installation for all A350 XWB derivatives. For the A350 XWB-900, he led the development from early concept development through detailed design, manufacture and assembly through to successful flight test. He has a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering and German from Bath University.

As leader of an aerospace strategy practice, the premier trade organisation for companies in the UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space Sectors, ADS has relied upon Clive to produce the aerospace market analysis for its Global Aerospace Outlook since 2009. Dozens of blue chip industry clients call upon Achieving the Difference’s approach and knowledge to help them access and grow in aerospace. Clive himself, sits on the Aerospace Growth Partnership strategy working group.

Clive holds a Distinction grade MA in Marketing, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Chartered Marketer, a member of the ADS Urban Air Mobility Group, Through-Life Service Group, Aerospace & Defence Export Focus Groups, a contributor to the Aerospace Growth Partnership strategy.

Miles has worked in the property industry for over 30 years starting as a commercial property surveyor. Miles has worked in both public and private sectors and been involved with many major development projects including The Eden project.

In 2010 Miles joined the Aerohub Team leading a major programme of aviation and aerospace investment at Cornwall Airport Newquay, which was awarded Enterprise Zone status in August 2011. Goonhilly Earth Station also came within his remit when awarded Enterprise Zone status in April 2016. Since Jan 2015 Miles has led the development of Spaceport Cornwall at Cornwall Airport Newquay an ambitious project to deliver safe low cost access to space, from 2020.

Spaceport Cornwall will be a unique place where; Human Spaceflight, Satellite Launch and Airport passenger services are safely integrated.

Lee is a co-founder of PXL Realm, a company creating engineering software to enable visualisation, real time collaboration and simulation. He has spent 7 years in the aerospace industry starting as a materials & processes engineer. By bringing his hobby of programming as a tool for his work, along with his passion for manufacturing simulation, he has transitioned to a career as a multi-disciplined software engineer creating engineering tools, applications and automation.

Chris Bushell - Director Government Affairs, Leonardo

Team Tempest

Chris was appointed as Director Government Affairs, Leonardo UK, on 1 January 2019.

Based in Westminster, Chris leads the Government Affairs team which has responsibility for coordinating Leonardo in the UK’s Government, Parliamentary and key stakeholder engagement whilst maintaining and enhancing Leonardo’s reputation and awareness amongst political leaders and stakeholders. His team also lead on engagement with institutions, trade bodies and academia.

Chris was previously the Director of Major Air Programmes during 2017/18, with P&L responsibility for delivery of Leonardo’s airborne integrated sensor systems into a wide variety of international combat aircraft, helicopter and ISTAR manned/unmanned programmes, including: Tempest, TF-X, JFF and the UK/France Future Combat Air System. He also coordinated support for Typhoon and Gripen export sales opportunities. Prior to this he was SVP for the Electronic Warfare business from 2013 with a £500M P&L responsibility and a site of 1,000 people.

Prior to joining Leonardo in September 2012, Chris served in the Royal Air Force as an Engineer Officer for 30 years. His final tour was in UKTI Defence & Security Organisation, as an Air Vice-Marshal, where he led the sales campaign for Typhoon in Oman. He was previously the IPT Leader for Typhoon in DE&S. He attended the Royal College of Defence Studies and Advanced Command & Staff Course. Chris completed 3 tours in the Ministry of Defence including conducting the McKane Study into Through Life Capability Management and working directly for Chief of the Air Staff. He was Station Commander at RAF Cosford and served on a number of stations in the UK and the Falkland Islands supporting: Chinooks, Pumas, the Red Arrows, and Phantoms.

Chris gained an MA in Defence Studies from Kings College London in 1998 having graduated from Salford University in 1984 with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and gaining a Cadetship in the Engineer Branch of the Royal Air Force.

Alfred Ng - Innovation Lead – Aerospace (Technology)- Innovate UK

Future of Flight Challenge

Alfred developed a passionate for aircraft from a very young age. Originated from Hong Kong, he moved to the UK for further education. After graduating from University of Bath with a MEng in Aerospace Engineering, he joined the Ministry of Defence (MOD) as a Defence Engineering and Science Group (DESG) graduate. He spent 10 years in the MOD and went on to lead multi-million-pound defence projects in Typhoon before joining Innovate UK in Feb 2017 initially as the ATI Relationship Manager. But he could not resist going back to his technical roots and has been the Innovation Lead – Aerospace (Technology) since Feb 2018.

In his spare time, Alfred enjoys cooking and computer gaming. He recently became a first time dad and lives with his family in Bath.

Alfred is also an STEM ambassador, volunteering time, enthusiasm and experiences to encourage and inspire young people to progress further in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.
