RNLI Experience Day

13th March 2020, Poole

Summary

RNLI Experience Day

For an experience you’ll never forget, come visit the home of RNLI training. Whether you’re a corporate organisation looking to inspire and motivate your team. A club or society looking for an extraordinary team activity, or someone looking for a unique challenge.

Both our Sea Survival and Capsize experience sessions puts you right at the heart of the RNLI, giving you an exclusive opportunity to experience first-hand the training our volunteer lifeboat crews rely on every day to save lives at sea.

Sea Survival Experience

This half day experience takes place in the sea survival centre at the RNLI College in Poole. After pool side drills and safety briefing, participants don standard RNLI kit and take to the wave tank. Worsening sea conditions are simulated and participants must work as a team as they ‘abandon ship’ inflate and climb into a life-raft, and attract the attention of the ‘helicopter’ rescue before being winched to safety.

Capsize Experience

This half day experience also takes place in the sea survival centre. Before the practical elements begin you will be briefed fully on the capsize procedure. During the session you will be shown how to enter the water appropriately before boarding the Atlantic 85 lifeboat from the water. Once onboard worsening sea conditions are simulated the boat will be capsized using the overhead crane. You and the crew onboard will work together to deploy the sea anchor, exiting the upturned boat and activating the re-righting bag. Once upright you will re-board the vessel and once back on-board radio for assistance before recovering the anchor and installing the emergency antenna.

Whilst both experiences have been developed to be enjoyable and fun, they are also challenging. In both drills you will be following the same procedure used to train our lifeboat crews today. After completing the experience, participants feel a great sense of pride and a feeling that ‘anything is possible’.

You can either take part in the whole day which includes the capsize and sea survival experience or you could choose one or the other making it a half day session. The whole day would be £450.00 per person incl VAT and lunch, or a half day would be £240.00 per person incl VAT but excluding lunch. Please note that the maximum number of people that can take part in these sessions are 12 and the minimum number is 6.
