A principle factor in the performance and prosperity of an organisation is the quality of its products or services. Performance measures are at the very heart of an organisations continued growth. There is a continuing trend towards more stringent customer expectations with regard to quality and reliability within the aerospace and defence sector. Accompanying this trend is the high profile and importance placed on AS 9100: 2016 to drive consistent quality and reliability through the supply chain.

Course Summary

This training programme has been developed to explain the new Internal Audit requirements against the AS 9100: 2016 requirements – with consideration to the revised assessment approach for PEAR’s* and risk management. Based on recent successful Certification Body projects, coupled with our USA “quality management” training against the AS 9100: 2016 and ISO 9001: 2015 transition requirements, the training programme will provide delegates with:

• An overview of the new AS 9100: 2016 (D) requirements

• Facilitate debate between delegates

• Discuss how to achieve or maintain effective compliance against the AS 9100 requirements, and

• Above all else, provide the methodologies and techniques for effective internal auditing.


Course Objectives

In addition to the above, the objective of this training programme is also to provide the tools and techniques required for successful implementation of AS 9100 – providing the knowledge for both performance and compliance auditing, with reference to the assessment of contract risk.

• Summarise the ISO 9001: 2015 and AS 9100: 2016 transition focus

• Business risk requirements, SWOT analysis – tools and techniques and continuity planning

• Audit and report writing requirements against AS 9100 (demonstrating evidence and compliance)

• Auditing and audit objectives

• Attributes of a good auditor

• Audit prioritising and forward planning

• Audit reporting and presentation of findings

• Corrective action through to closure

• Effective root cause analysis

• What the AS 9100 - Certification bodies expect from your internal auditing

• PEAR’s - process effectiveness measures – who’s responsible and what are they?

Who should attend

The training programme is aimed at Quality Management Representatives, Business Managers, Quality Inspectors and the wider quality management team responsible for development, implementation, internal audit and continued compliance against ISO 9001, AS 9100 (and 9110 / 9120) and or Nadcap.

Delegates should have an understanding and working knowledge of quality management systems and or production management - from manufacturing, service, research and or a laboratory environment.


Course Tutor:

Mechanical / Optical Engineer from the aerospace and defence sector with Post Graduate Diploma in Management & Business Studies. Studied under a Ministry of Defence graduate apprenticeship programme posted throughout the UK defence facilities. With a solid technical background, David’s career took him from precision engineering and quality management at senior operations level, through to advising UK and Foreign Government institutions against the “front line first” policy initiative within the fields of metrology, standards, testing and quality management systems.

Over the years, have developed and formally introduced a range of quality management systems to include AS 9100 / 9120, ISO 17025, ISO 17021, ISO 9001, Nadcap, etc. and introduced inspection and test methodologies in support of contract compliance (successfully completing over 600 quality management projects) – currently undertaking consultancy and training projects service and manufacturing.

MoD and HM Crown Agent international aerospace and defence experience – including Foreign Government Institutions of: – Albania, Argentina, Bosnia, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Estonia, Falklands, Hungary, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kosovo, Kuwait, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Mongolia, Mozambique, Pakistan, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Thailand, Ukraine, Uruguay and Vietnam.
