Yeovil Networking Lunch

Colin Turner FRAeS - WEAF CEO

Update on the AGP & WEAF

WEAF's CEO Colin Turner has a wealth of experience in aerospace & engineering.

His career began working for British Nuclear Fuels, following this he then went to university in Leeds, where he gained a degree in Metals and Material Science.

After university Colin returned back into work within the gas turbine industry as a development engineer. He then went on to a varied career, spanning 12 years with Bodycote PLC.

He later joined Leonardo Helicopters as a Senior Supplier Relationship Manager looking after suppliers with order book values of +£80m, followed by a senior role in the Procurement & Supply Chain Team, looking for new technology supplier partners to working on experimental and innovation projects leading to new Leonardo Helicopters products.

Following his career with Leonardo Helicopters, Colin then worked for Babcock International Group as a Group Sourcing Specialist for Engineering Systems.

Phil Curnock - Valuechain

Phil’s experience spans over 30 years, delivering value in senior strategic and operational roles within the Aerospace and Defence sector.

Through his career to-date, Phil has had senior management roles in Bae Systems, Airbus, Rolls Royce and SME businesses in the areas of Operations , Procurement ,Supply chain ,quality ,change management and Business Development programmes. Phil previously managed the UK Aerospace and Defence Industry Supply chain programme SC21 from its development stages through to the successful programme it is today with over 700 companies on the programme.

Through his extensive industry experience Phil now supports a wide range of international innovative businesses in helping them in strategic growth and business development .

Matt Griffith - Director of Policy at Business West

Matt is Director of Policy at Business West and currently provides advice and support to businesses on Brexit and trade through their award winning ‘Trading through Brexit’ platform.

He has a long history of economic policy experience, writing reports for the Prime Minister on improving England’s economic performance, with experience of high level lobby work in UK government and the European Union, including with the Treasury, BEIS, No 10 and the European Commission, briefing Ministers, parliamentarians, officials and Ministerial advisors and given evidence to House of Commons and House of Lords Select Committees.

Matt also worked for several years supporting emerging market economies on trade negotiations at the World Trade Organisation and in European Union bilateral negotiations and as an advisor for the G33 and G90 group of countries. This included trade policy discussions at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and written research notes for the Chinese, Indian and other developing country governments.

He has written and been quoted in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and the Times
